In late December 2023, our team conducted a project at Weyerhaeuser’s Longview, WA site to secure unprotected indoor conveyors. These conveyors, used in planing and sawmill sections, typically transport wood. With the recent adoption of a new safety policy, the organization needed to take measures to minimize risks during maintenance operations. This includes preventing falls in the danger zone and managing situations where a staff member could become entangled in the moving machinery.
The client did not want to integrate metal guards due to their weight, the complexity of disassembly during maintenance, and the risk of injury to personnel during handling. The Enduride team, therefore, designed an innovative, custom-made solution to perfectly fit the existing equipment and the operational needs of the maintenance teams.
EXPRESS DELIVERY IN 3 MONTHS
It has been just over three months since our very first exchange with the Weyerhaeuser team, and the delivery of the equipment to the client site from our factory in Quebec, Canada. In just a few weeks, we not only understood the operational challenges but also created 3D scans to ensure customized solutions. We submitted plans, obtained approvals, ensured production, and coordinated transportation to the site in winter weather conditions. A demonstration of mastery and efficiency that speaks to our unwavering commitment to excellence.
11 CONVEYORS, 442 METERS OF CUSTOM NETTING
At Enduride, we tailored our solution to over ten conveyors at the Longview site, totaling an impressive 440 meters (1,450 feet) of custom-designed flexible guards. The height of each net was precisely adjusted to perfectly fit the specific configuration of each of these conveyors.
INGENIOUS FASTENING AND SIMPLIFIED MAINTENANCE
Our engineers conceptualized attaching the guards directly to the conveyor structure, minimizing the number of drilled holes. Maintenance employees have already expressed their appreciation for the ease of opening and closing the Enduride net guards, thanks to our simple two-step mechanism.
AMONG THE FIRST UNSUPERVISED INSTALLATIONS
A noteworthy distinction of this project is that our client opted for one of the first installations without our direct supervision. For us, this is a testament to the trust in our expertise, our online guides and training, and the quality of our solution.
EXEMPLARY EFFICIENCY: 6 DAYS, 9 PEOPLE
Despite a slower start due to a learning curve on the first day, the team of nine people completed the installation in just six days. Once the learning curve was mastered, the installation proceeded remarkably quickly.
APPRECIATION AT ALL LEVELS
Photos of this installation were shared within the Weyerhaeuser group, generating strong interest. Several entities have already expressed their desire to adopt the same solution to enhance the safety of their conveyors. Both the hierarchy and maintenance employees unanimously applaud this innovative solution. At the Longview site, they are not only satisfied with the speed and efficiency of our team but also with the level of detail provided in the plans, contributing to the overall success of the installation and its adoption.
From the first site visit to the implementation of our solution, Weyerhaeuser Longview has expressed complete satisfaction. Our understanding of conveyor safety issues, our customized approach, quick execution, and ease of installation have contributed to an exceptional customer experience.
This project demonstrates our commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. We are thrilled to have exceeded expectations and paved the way for uncompromising conveyor safety.
